How To Utilize The Collaborator Tool On Instagram
By now, every Instagram user has seen the collaborator tool used at least once. This feature lets users co-author Instagram feed posts and Reels, opening up another way for creators and brands to reach new audiences and double their exposure. We’ve outlined the benefits of using the collaborator tool and created an easy guide on how to post as a collaborator. Let’s get started.
Four Benefits of the Collaborator Tool
1. Reach a new audience.
Using the collaborator tool allows your post or reel to be shown on other users’ feed, allowing their collective followers to view and engage with your content. For example, if an Instagram user has 50k followers and is collaborating with an account with 200k followers, the post will share with both accounts’ followers at once and encourage the opportunity to gain new followers.
2. Boost engagement.
We have seen engagement on posts that used the collaborator feature nearly double because there are twice as many eyes on the content boosting overall reach and engagement. Plus, Instagram favors users who utilize the latest tools so these posts will end up with a higher engagement rate.
3. Avoid duplicate posts.
Within the design industry, we often see brands, photographers, architects, designers, etc. working together on product lines and projects, which could result in both accounts wanting to share the final product of their work. This tool streamlines the process of seeing the content once and creates a more coordinated effort with your partners and collaborators.
4. Collaborate with like-minded brands.
If you’re looking to collaborate with like-minded brands or influencers, this tool is a great way to partner with them. For example, If you are a brand, you can leverage the tool with an designer, publication, or influencer on highlighting a new product, project, or announcement.
How to Send a Collaboration Request
After uploading your Reel or feed post, go to the share screen and tap “Tag People.”
In the bottom right corner, you’ll see an option to “Invite Collaborator.” After tapping, search and choose the user you’d like to collaborate with.
After you’ve chosen your collaborator, share the post as usual, and the creator will receive a request in their DMs. The post will not appear until they’ve accepted your request.
PRO TIP: Keep in mind, that the request is sometimes overlooked in notifications, so it’s important that you and the other account approve the content and coordinate the posting schedule ahead of time.
How to Accept a Collaboration Request
Check your DMs to see any collaboration requests.
Tap the “Accept” button for the content to be shared with both of your feeds.
PRO TIP: If you are a creator collaborating with a business account to post a reel, have the business account choose the music since your Instagram audio rights are different. If the creator chooses the audio, there is a chance the business account will not have access, and the Collaborator tool will not be able to be used.
